Carbon Reduction Plan

1. Commitment to Achieving Net Zero

Jireh Care and Recruitment Services Ltd is fully committed to achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, in line with:

• The UK Government’s Net Zero Strategy

• PPN 06/21 requirements

• The Climate Change Act 2008 (as amended)

• CQC Environmental Sustainability Quality Statement (2023)

• NHS Greener NHS ambitions for care providers working within integrated systems

We recognise our responsibility as a health and social care provider to reduce emissions across our operations, supply chain, and commissioned services. 

2. Organisational Boundaries

Our carbon reporting follows the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard and includes:

• Scope 1: Direct emissions from company owned vehicles and gas heating

• Scope 2: Indirect emissions from purchased electricity

• Scope 3: Indirect emissions from business travel, waste, water, procurement, and staff commuting

5. Carbon Reduction Targets

We aim to achieve:

• 15% reduction by 2028

• 35% reduction by 2035

• 50% reduction by 2040

• Net Zero by 2050

6. Carbon Reduction Measures Implemented to Date

Energy Efficiency

• Transition to LED lighting across all offices and supported living sites

• Installation of smart meters and energy monitoring dashboards

• Reduced heating temperatures by 1°C, saving approx. 8% energy

Electricity & Heating

• Switched to 100% renewable electricity tariffs

• Phasing out gas boilers during property refurbishments

Travel & Fleet

• Introduced a low emission travel policy

• Reduced business mileage by 12% through digital meetings

• Piloting electric pool vehicles for community visits

Waste & Recycling

• Introduced clinical waste segregation and recycling stations

• Reduced paper use by 40% through digital care planning

Procurement

Adopted a Sustainable Procurement Policy prioritising suppliers with:

• Carbon Reduction Plans

• Ethical Supply Chains

• Low Carbon Products

7. Planned Carbon Reduction Measures (2026–2030)

Energy & Buildings

• Retrofit programme for supported living properties (insulation, lowenergy appliances)

• Install air source heat pumps in new or refurbished sites

• Introduce automatic shutoff systems for lighting and heating

Travel

• Transition 50% of fleet to electric vehicles by 2030

• Expand cycle to work scheme and staff incentives

• Implement route optimisation software for community visits

Waste & Circular Economy

• Zero to landfill commitment by 2030

• Introduce reusable PPE options where clinically safe

• Expand recycling to include batteries, small electricals, and toner cartridges

Procurement & Supply Chain

• Require all major suppliers to provide a Carbon Reduction Plan by 2027

• Prioritise local suppliers to reduce transport emissions

• Embed sustainability scoring into all procurement decisions

Culture & Workforce

• Mandatory annual sustainability training for all staff

• Green Champions in each service

• Quarterly sustainability reporting to the Board

8. Governance and Reporting

• Oversight by the Director of Operations

• Quarterly reporting to the Board of Directors

•  Annual publication of updated Carbon Reduction Plan

• Compliance with PPN 06/21 and SECR reporting standards

9. Declaration and SignOff

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been reviewed and approved by the Board of Directors of Jireh Care and Recruitment Services Ltd.
